CISOs globally confront the intricate challenges posed by the constantly evolving cybersecurity landscape. Through a comprehensive survey of over 1,000 CISOs worldwide, ESI ThoughtLab identifies six transformative practices that distinguish top-performing firms in cybersecurity. This study, encompassing 1,009 companies across 13 industries and 19 countries, sheds light on the strategies imperative for achieving optimal cybersecurity performance.
Amid the rapid pace of digital transformation, CISOs anticipate a surge in cyber threats over the next two years, including attacks exploiting AI, DDoS, and web application vulnerabilities. The survey unveils staggering statistics, recording 28,100 successful breaches with an average cost of $330,000 each, with industries such as insurance, finance, retail, hospitality, and automotive being hit hardest. Despite CISOs estimating a 45% probability of moderate to severe breaches, ESI’s analysis suggests a far graver reality, with the likelihood of such breaches ranging between 62% and 86%. These findings underscore the urgency for organizations to adopt proactive cybersecurity measures to fortify their defenses against escalating threats.
